O Banco do Brasil pretende substituir completamente o uso do pacote de programas Office, da Microsoft, por softwares livres até o final deste ano. A informação foi dada em nota da instituição, divulgada hoje. O banco planeja economizar R$ 13 milhões de reais com a migração para o conjunto de programas para escritório OpenOffice, da Sun Microsystems, que não exige pagamento de licença de uso.
Atualmente, o Banco do Brasil tem 20% de sua rede migrada e a suíte OpenOffice (que possui editor de texto e planilha eletrônica, entre outros aplicativos) já é executada em 23 mil computadores do banco.
Além disso, a instituição tem como meta instalar softwares livres nos servidores de suas 5,5 mil dependências no país até metade do ano.
Em comunicado separado, a instituição anunciou ainda o lançamento de um conjunto de programas baseado em software livre que será usado em salas de informáticas do Programa de Inclusão Digital do Banco do Brasil. O projeto tem 1,5 mil telecentros e atende mais de 4 milhões de pessoas.
